The Year13 Expo is an online careers exhibition. For 2021's event we decided to design an interactive map as a special way for the user to navigate to the different ‘stages’ and discover different speakers.
I designed all of the digital collages that made up the map. Each island had a different purpose and theme. Playful collage elements helped distinguish and bring variety to each island.
These assets were then handed over to our in house developers who added interactive elements where the stages would react and bounce gently as the user hovers over them.

For the interactive map I first started sketching out different styles of islands and stages on the iPad. I looked at how different objects could be collaged together and how to make them pop against the background. The designs first began quite light and bubbly, but because we had a tech focus on the event, I used glitches and half tones to make the stages moodier.
For the “Market Place” Island, it was important that each partners hub had their own unique little identity and theme. Westpac’s hub was all about financial literacy, so I used playful imagery of piggy banks and briefcase to create miniature scenes.
